Location: Bogor, Indonesia
Year: 2024
Scope: Landscape Concept Design

Oasis of Harmony is envisioned as a landscape that extends the role of Masjid Baiturrahman beyond its primary religious function, transforming the surrounding grounds into a vibrant communal space that serves the daily needs of the neighborhood. Located along Jl. Destarata, the proposed landscape is designed to accommodate multiple activities, from parking and community gatherings to informal recreation and social interaction. By integrating practical functions with meaningful spatial experiences, the project reinforces the mosque’s position as both a spiritual anchor and a social catalyst within the community.

The design embraces a flexible and adaptive approach, allowing the open space to function as a multifunctional landscape that can respond to changing community needs over time. Rather than separating sacred and social activities, the concept seeks to harmonize them through carefully organized outdoor spaces that encourage connection, reflection, and collective engagement. The resulting environment provides opportunities for everyday interaction while maintaining a sense of dignity and tranquility appropriate to the mosque setting.

A key consideration of the project is the preservation and integration of existing mature trees. The design has been developed to minimize disturbance to existing vegetation, ensuring that future decisions regarding tree retention, pruning, trimming, or removal can be made independently without significantly affecting the overall landscape framework. Where feasible, existing trees are retained as valuable environmental assets that contribute shade, character, and ecological benefits to the site. Selective canopy management may also improve visibility, safety, and spatial openness while maintaining the health and longevity of significant trees.

More than a functional outdoor space, Oasis of Harmony represents a living expression of balance, between spirituality and community life, permanence and adaptability, nature and human activity. The landscape creates a welcoming environment where residents can gather, interact, and find moments of respite within a green and inclusive setting. Through this integration of practical infrastructure, ecological sensitivity, and cultural significance, the project aspires to foster a stronger sense of belonging and collective identity, reflecting the mosque’s enduring role as a center of faith, unity, and shared community values.
