Where landscape becomes a classroom.
yingPan Kindergarden
Located in Guizhou, southwest China, near the dramatic landscapes exemplified by Huangguoshu Waterfall, the Yingpan Kindergarten Landscape Revitalization Project reimagines the school grounds as a playful, topography-driven learning environment. The design draws directly from the region’s hilly terrain, shaping the site into an undulating landscape that maximizes usable outdoor space and supports active, exploratory play.
Sculpted landforms create a continuous play surface for climbing, running, gathering, and resting, while bold, high-contrast colors establish clear, energetic zones for young children. The landscape extends upward through activated roof areas that accommodate urban farming, playgrounds, a small sculpture park, and shaded seating, transforming the campus into a vertically layered, multifunctional outdoor classroom. The result is a child-centered landscape that integrates play, learning, and local identity into a cohesive spatial experience.
